Mentor Vouching

How mentor vouching works in StepFi

Mentor Vouching

Mentor vouching is a trust mechanism that lets senior developers stake their reputation to help learners access better loan terms.

How It Works

  1. A learner requests a vouch from a mentor
  2. The mentor reviews the learner's profile and loan request
  3. If satisfied, the mentor calls vouch() on the vouching contract
  4. The learner's reputation score increases by up to 12 points
  5. Better score means lower interest rate and higher credit limit

Vouch Effects

Mentor TierReputation BoostDuration
Bronze (60 to 74)+6 points3 months
Silver (75 to 89)+12 points6 months
Gold (90 to 100)+18 points12 months

Risk to Mentor

If the learner defaults on their loan, the mentor's reputation score decreases proportionally. This creates a strong incentive for mentors to only vouch for learners they trust.

Contract Status

The vouching contract is currently in development. It will be deployed in Phase 2. See issue #4 on StepFi-Contracts for implementation details.
